App Of The Week, 9/23/13: Easy Scorecard

This week's app is an easy nod to one of my favorites. It has only been on my phone for about a month, and I love it. Easy Scorecard is an app you can use to track your games at different courses. Hybrid setup allows for using holes for disc golf or golf. It simply takes the data you enter for each hole (Hole #, Par #) and will track your scores which are entered by on-screen buttons. As of testing, scores can be entered up to 20 shots.

Features of the free app: Round timer (tracks the amount of time per round, useful for tracking how long it takes you to play each round), setup for tee styles (and an estimated rating for them).

Note: No review of Pro features, as I've not dropped the change on that yet. A future review when I do have the Pro app is planned.

The main menu gives you access to starting a new round, looking at previous rounds, looking over courses you have played at, players and teams (which you can use to setup handicap calculations, and methods), Stats, and settings/help. Navigation of the whole app is dirt simple. I tried two other apps, and the interface wasn't as clean as this one. It's all simple text and buttons.

Setting up a course is as simple as naming it, setting the type (disc/golf), and adding the par for each hole. It will allow you to leave the par blank so you can fill in the info later. Also, from the screen during a round, par can be adjusted by tapping the par indicator on the top of the screen.

The screen during the round becomes the scorecard breakdown for each hole. It will show the hole number, timer, location settings (pro), notepad for each hole (can switch tab to note for course notes), distance, and tracking scores for each player, and buttons for scoring, previous hole, and next hole.

Overall, I've used this app to track scores for ten rounds of disc golf. Of all the rounds, I've never been disappointed. Like I said, the interface is simple. Easy to read in shadows (could be part of my screen protector). The only thing I would like would be for a light/dark switch so it could more easily be read in daytime shooting. The app is solid.

Hi, I'm Jason, and I'm going to be contributing here, hopefully on the regular, and here's a few of the things that you can expect from my entries.

--App of the Week: I'm going to be reviewing a app every Monday and it's going to be one of the best apps out there for what you can do with your life. Why Monday you ask? Because the weekend is my time and I'm usually off work, so I can actually spend time giving you the ins and the outs of the app and have it posted on Monday. Because Mondays suck that bad anyways so you should have some good news to start the week off with.

App of the Week will most likely review Android products, but could also feature a few iOS offerings on occasion, and will also feature things like Google Chrome cast , and its related application. Most reviews will be of free applications, or apps that I have paid for, or apps that I have got for free on the Amazon app store. However, future options could be for paid apps that are supported by the followers of the blog through PayPal.

App of the Week suggestions for categories or other apps could be emailed to me.

-- other articles could be a tips and tricks blog, or something to do with Ice cream sandwich, or to do with whatever the heck version of Android I have on my phone is.  I might also use the space to talk about different phones coming up, or interesting little quirks about operating systems, or settings you might not know about.

Android 4.4 KitKat

Update 9/27/13: Looking like October 12th with the release of the Nexus 5 and also on the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 as well.

I'm at first thought this was a joke but i realized its a long ways from April! So after watching the cheesy video they released I thought wow that was money well spent!! NOT!
If you haven't seen the video already just search "android kitkat" The official page is up now head on over and check it out. There is also a contest in specially marked packages of Kit Kat with the Android robot on the front with the chance to win either a Nexus 7 or Google Play store credit. I'm guessing there is codes on the wrappers to enter on the above mentioned official page. I'm looking forward to what is in store with this new version! Hopefully something very cool or useful. Whatever it may be I'm sure I will want a phone that runs it! Haven't heard of when it will be released. So now we wait.
